Taking Environmental Product Testing to the Next Level

The thermal shock chambers, proposed by F.lli Galli, subject the products to temperatures with an extremely rapid rate of change.

The vertical, horizontal and double models have independent hot and cold controlled temperature zones.

The tested products are automatically transferred between the zones, and are subjected to strong thermal stresses.

Thermotron Thermal Shock Chambers are designed and engineered to operate in accordance with a variety of military, commercial, quality control, and reliability testing programs. Most models of Thermal Shock Chambers are equipped with cascade refrigeration systems to allow complete cooling using only mechanical refrigeration.

Horizontal

Horizontally oriented thermal shock chambers have three independent zones side by side: hot, ambient, and cold. The addition of the ambient zone allows for three-zone testing, which is a requirement of some military standards.

This unique and versatile chamber configuration can also be used for dual-zone testing. This is achieved by programming the product holder to automatically transfer the product from hot to cold and vice versa, eliminating the need to pause in the ambient zone.

Vertical

Vertically oriented thermal shock chambers have two independently controlled hot and cold zones; one above the other. A single product conveyor moves between each zone, subjecting the product to large temperature variations.

An advantage of the vertical orientation chamber is that it uses less floor space, making it ideal for smaller laboratories.

Double

Thermotron dual-function thermal shock chambers have a cold zone positioned between two hot zones, aligned vertically at the top and bottom.

The test products are placed in one of the two baskets and transferred between the zones that produce a strong thermal stress. At least one product conveyor always occupies the cold zone.

This configuration makes efficient use of the chamber cooling system, providing better product testing performance than standard thermal shock designs.

Thermotron’s innovative accelerated stress testing systems for Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) rapidly detect product failures using industry-leading, patented technology.

Performing HALT and HASS improves product reliability by maximizing laboratory efficiency, reducing costs associated with warranties and recalls.

Repetitive Shock

HALT and HASS are powered by repetitive shock vibrations, achieved by a vibrating table. Pneumatic hammers strike the bottom of the table, providing vibrations on 3 axes and 3 rotations, simultaneously.

Thermotron’s patented repetitive shock tables have a unique thermal insulation system that minimizes the thermal load on the chamber and provides a stable condition for the operation of the impactor.

Impactor cooling mechanisms help impactors last longer and reduce maintenance downtime for more effective and efficient testing. The shaker’s spaced mounting design maximizes vibration transmissibility and provides accurate test results.

Multi-zone control

By nature, repetitive shock shakers are not uniform across the entire surface of the table, nor can they control down to a Grms level; this can produce inaccurate results because the level of vibration actually experienced by the product may be higher or lower, depending on the position of the accelerometer.

Thermotron’s unique patented Multi-Zone Control solves this problem. This optional feature controls the repetitive shock table in one, two, or four zones of the table. Through the AST-8800, Multi-Zone Control automatically makes dynamic adjustments to each zone, compensating for system variability including table inconsistencies, impactor wear, air supply, fixtures, and product mounting to accurately test multiple products simultaneously.

Multi-zone control ensures excellent uniformity to test products within 5% of each Grms zone control, making HALT and HASS testing more controllable and consistent.

Each zone can also be set to a different Grms level or the Multi-Zone control can be turned off to control the entire table at one Grms level.

AST-8800 Controller

The AST-8800 controller features an intuitive Windows®-based graphical user interface. The color monitor displays power spectral density, temperature, and vibration data on one screen.

Users define how multiple accelerometers and thermocouples are used to control and monitor the stresses delivered to the product under test.

The AST-8800 controller can be configured to monitor the run time of wear items and automatically alert the operator when periodic maintenance is required.

The system is Ethernet compatible and web-enabled for anytime, anywhere virtual access. Thermotron’s multi-level password-based security system protects sensitive data.
